In talking with people:

  • Some said that the TennCare program benefited them and met their current needs. However, a young couple with one spouse going to school expressed concern over access to health insurance since they made too much to qualify for Medicaid and not enough to pay for private insurance. Many in this area work for Mountain States Health Alliance and ETSU and receive health insurance from those institutions. One employee of MSHA expressed frustration that even though he worked for a large hospital system, the insurance that he received did not seem to provide adequate coverage and the deductibles were high.
